The constant development of new information and communication technologies and its

fast expansion change the world everyday.

The use of Internet is a great tendency both for developed and developing countries. In 2005, the internet users in developing countries surpassed to the developed’s. For that reason, it is needed the uso of new technologies which can endure this great demand. The use of website as “youtube”, where anyone can upload videos, is saturating the web, making neccesary an increased server capacity.

In addition, big gaps like economic and social issues remain both within and between countries, making dificult the reach for all.

The United State called for a World Summit on the Information Society, made in two phases (one in 2003 and the another in 2005), in which the goal was discuss the progress and reach of communication technologies in world.

My Career

The reason why I wanted start the career in veterinary medicine is the same from many others: I like so much animals. This attraction started long time ago, when I just was a little boy. I liked everything about animals, especially the wild ones. I loved to read fabula, watch teacher Rossa’s tv show and documentals, collect albums, play with dogs and animals from my grandparents’s farm, etc, etc.

I wanted to do something for the animals and I chose the medicine area for to do it, because I found very interesting.

Well,,,The last year I had a break point on my decision about studing veterinary medicine. The Fact was that I really dont like clinics and animal production. It was difficult to me to accept it very much. I felt lost and I didn’t want to do anything. I leave the classrooms and started to found me. I wanted enter in other career: Environmental Biology, because I could work with animals through a point of view more about population than individuals and to guard for their conservation, but talking with teachers from that career I came to the conclution that I could to do the same things studing veterinary, and I also could have a plus: the medical knowledge. I like medicine , it was only a fear, because I still don’t wanna be a clinic man.

Currently, my future vision is practise the veterinaty like a epidemiologist. I want to guard the public health and control the disease of the populations. This is a way to contribute to society like a veterinary doctor, but there’s many others, like keeping pets healthy, develop comercial and food products, contribute to the Scientist knowledge, etc.

With all the environmental and demographic problems, like global warming, habitats destruction, Increase of the population, etc, the relation between animals and man, the emergent diseases and the need for more foods, are becoming topics very importants everyday, I think the veterinaries are entering hardly in the national problems and interdiscipline teams will be necessary to approach the problems.

Dog Genius

The dogs are very intelligent, defining intelligence as the good capacity of developing in the environment, because their environment is us. They can understand us very well because they are been molded for that. The dogs come from the wolf. It is thought that the wolves approached to men for the leftover foods of the men, becoming more docile. Since that moment, the man has domesticated them, lose them some abilities to hunt and detaching others, making many shapes of them.
One of these enhanced features is the smell. The dog can smell 40000 times better than humans, detecting many different odors even over long distances. The bloodhound is the best breed to smell.

The dogs have an impressive ability of association. Experiments have shown that dogs can detect signals from us, like our hands, our eyes and our voice, among others, doing it much better the chimps. What demonstrate the great link between dogs and men.

This good development is used to make Helper dogs, which are trained for people with disabilities. This training is done early, when they are puppies, showing them all the things of our world to which they will face in future. When they are ready, they are graduated and delivered to their new owners, becoming real lifesavers.

The dogs can associate objects with words. One dog called “Rico” has shown an amazing ability in this area. This border collie has been tested by rigorous experiments and found to understand the meanings of about 200 different words. He also can discriminate unknown objects by exclusion. This is called "fast mapping", which is developed by children since two years old.
This leaves the question whether ability is doable for all dogs or it is just an exception. Experiments with others dogs have shown that Roco wouldn`t be the one

Are really dogs geniuses? May be they are misunderstood geniuses. One doberman called Donnie has shown to make interesting patterns with her toys. May be she does that to express something, who knows,,,

The knowledge about their whole intelligence is still incomplete. What is known is they understand us better than they understand themselves

I like this picture: a beauty little shedog

This is Jade, a very beauty german shepherd shedog that I had. The picture is of July 2005, when she was six months and it was taken in my house of Talca. I like this picture a lot because she looks happy, like she was smiling.

She died in january of this year by an autoimmune disease and I miss her so much, but I watch this picture and I get happy. It makes me remember all the happy moments with her.

She was very smart and obedient, and she loved to me. We were a good pair, because we understood each other very well. I taught to her many things, as giving the hand, sitting, search hidden things, jump to catch something, “speaking” (she barked when one spoke with her), cover her face ( I liked so much this one, because it was very funny. She covered her face with her hand when one said “shame”).

Comig to study in Santiago make me be much time apart, and I couldn`t be with her all the time that I had wanted.

By many reasons, the last year I had to give her away. Fortunately, the people who received to her was very good, and they wanted so much.

I coudn`t be with her when she left us, but I am happy because I know she was happy.

She has been the best partner that i`ve ever had, and she will be always in my heart

A website about birds of Chile

I like the birds of Chile, so I like to visit the web site www.avesdechile.cl. It is not a veterinary webpage but rather a biologist webpage.In 2006, my first year in college, I had to make a work about birds of wetlands for the course of zoology, and I found many information in this site, so I liked it. In this webpage, one can found information about the species of birds that live or visit Chile, as well as, its distribution, habitats, physical description, behaviors, etc. There`s pictures taken by biologists and sound of some birds too.In addition to the above, I like because there is news about what happens to some birds, and many topics very interesting about them, like the red list of birds of Chile, field guides, interviews with biologists, quizzes, and interesting links.I don´t visit the web site a lot, only occasionally when I want to know about a particular bird, but I will to do it this semester, because I am taking the ornithology course, and this site is very useful.

My favourite piece of technology

My favourite piece of technology is my notebook. It´s a HP compaq presario f500 series, AMD Sempron 1,8 GHz processor, which has operative system windows xp,120 Gb of hard disk and 1 GB Ram.
I bought it on July 2007 in “Almacenes Paris”
I use it for a lot of things. I do my works, see my classes files, listen classes and music, play games, watch movies, load pictures,, well, everything that a computer can do,,, but I can do it anywhere!!!
I use it everyday, including when I travel to Talca, I often play games or watch a movie in the bus. This way, the journey becomes not boring.
I like it because is portable and works very fast. When I bought it, it had operative system windows vista, and it was slower, but immediately I change it to windows xp and until now I haven´t had any problems.
I like it because is personal too. I can customize it to fit to my way of working and helps me to study.
I could live without it, but my life is easier with it. Before I got it, I had to use a friend´s computer (I live with four friends in a flat), and generally, we couldn´t use it for a long time, and I couldn´t have files in it.

Who am I??

Hello Hello!! I`m Rodrigo Salgado, a student of veterinary medicine cursing the English Pilot subject because I want to speak, write and listen english very very good (as you can see, i dont have a great vocabulary,,jejeje)
So, I`ve returned to the University after a very very very long vacation (almost one year) and I wanna start this year with all my batteries
